Trends A/W 2016

It’s never too soon to look forward and see what the strongest beauty looks are for later in the year and from the catwalks this year it’s clear that Autumn/Winter 2016 will bring some very strong, very wearable beauty looks, including a return to gloss and sparkle!

Starting with perhaps the most wearable of all. Glossy lips. Could it be that the matte lip, which has reigned supreme for a couple of years now, is on the way out? Certainly Dior, Louis Vuitton and Max Mara think so. High gloss lips were all the rage, in a variety of hues. We stock a huge range of Lip Glosses but be sure to check out Gerard Cosmetics Lighted Lip Glosses which are £9.95 and come in a large range of shades.

Also worth a look are the Milani Brilliant Shine Lip Glosses at £5 each, again in a variety of shades in both cream and shimmer finishes. The big trend was blackcurrant lips. Seen on the Rodarte, Marnie and Erdem. Think of the deepest darkest berry shades you can. Dior and Louis Vuitton added gloss for a lacquered look. Products to check out include Gerard Cosmetics Lipstick in Cherry Cordial (£9.95), Aromi Beauty Vamptastic Plum Matte Liquid Lipstick (£13.00), LA Splash Lip Couture in Manevolent (£9.95) as well as Beauty Bakeri’s Lip Whip in She’s Just Jelly (£15.95).

For Autumn and Winter 2016, skin is illuminated. Many of the fashion houses featured glowing skin with Valentino adding powder highlight on cheekbones, eyelids and the cupids bow. The Gerard Cosmetics Star Powders (£19.95 each) come in a range of shades for highlighting and will give you that glam glow.

Not for the first time, Graphic Liner featured heavily on the catwalks, in particular at the Kenzo and Oscar de la Renta shows. Graphic liner means using crisp lines to create a look that is more striking and unusual than the classic winged look. It could be drawing the shape of a wing but not filling it in, or it could be placing lines in unusual places. Whatever your imagination can conjure, but keep it simple, avoid swirls and whirls and keep lines crisp and minimal. Try the Milani Eye Tech Liquid Eye Liner (£6.00) for precise application.

Another strong look, featured by Carven, Dior and Nina Ricci was lashes, Twiggy Style. Think doll like and exaggerated. The easiest way to achieve this look is by using false lashes, the Ardell Fashion Lashes range (£4.95 each) offer several sets that fit the bill, while the Morphe Premium Eye Lashes (£3.50 each) are also worth a look.

The final look, seen perhaps most often, is glitter! Featured on the catwalks of Burberry, Kenso, Giambattista Vallia, and Versace. Glitter lips, glitter eyes, glitter on cheeks, glitter was hugely popular. Great news for sparkle lovers. Check out our extensive range of Violet Voss Glitters (£5.00 each!) and don’t forget some glitter glue to keep your sparkles in place all night. Try LA Splash Till Midnight Elix’r Glitter Glue and Primer (£9.95).
