On the blog we recently talked about Pantone’s colour of year, Marsala, which you can expect to see everywhere throughout 2015, but what else can we expect to be wearing and seeing in Spring/Summer 2015 in terms of cosmetics?
We look to the catwalks to find the most wearable trends, those that are most likely to filter down to us next season. Bleached/Barely There Brows – After season after season with brows being a primary focus, for this Spring/Summer, bold brows barely feature. Instead models were seen at Prada and Miu Miu with thin pencil drawn brows, while Alexander Wang and Givenchy bleached their models brows.
Natural – bare faced chic was seen all over the catwalks, from Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler. Marc Jacob’s models in fact wore no make up at all, while the Proenza Schouler models had concealer only.
Dewy Skin – following on from the natural look, complexions were very definitely powder free on the catwalks. Marni, Simone Rocha and Donna Karan models all sported dewy skin, with Thakoon and Blumarine adding lipgloss to eyelids for high shine.
Red Lip – The red lip never really goes out of fashion, but at the Spring/Summer shows, every shade of red you can imagine was seen. Missoni opted for orange tinged lips, Burberry and Zac Posen had models in bold scarlet, while Topshop Unique and Dolce & Gabbana opted for smudged berry hues.
Purple – Seen on the Derek Lam, Vera Wang and Matthew Williamson models, shades varied from pretty lilac through to deep smoky grape, with everything in between. Purple will be big this year.
Black Eyeliner – as with red lips, black eyeliner never goes out of style, but this season will see us saying goodbye to the classic cat eye flick. Celine, Prad and Narciso Rodriguez models all wore their black liner from the middle of the top and bottom lash line only, extending just past the outer corners, while Just Cavalli models sported bold black lines on the lower lash line only.
Hair – low ponytails, braids and crimping seemed to be the order of the day on the catwalks, along with decorative hair accessories, gold, floral and bold were all seen, with gold leading the way.
Bronzer – bronzer was seen all over the runways, namely Michael Kors, Prabal Gurung, Diane Von Furstenberg as well as Alexander Wang. In terms of colour, aside from purples and red lips, there was an overall lack of colour generally speaking, however, blue and teal shades cropped up in striking eye looks from Honor, Fendi, Holly Fulton and Ellie Saab.
It’s looking likely that Spring/Summer 2015 is going to be all about the natural look, with less attention being given to brows, and more attention being given to beautiful, glowing skin. A perfect look for warmer weather, and with the right base products, quite achievable for us mere mortals.
