Spring 2014 Colour Trends When it comes to colour, Pantone know all there is to know. Each year they announce a colour of the year, with the shade for 2014 being Radiant Orchid. Pantone have declared purple to be the dominant hue of the year because it can “intrigue the eye and spark the imagination” and Radiant Orchid itself is a particularly pinky purple but it’s not Pantone’s only prediction for 2014.
Along with their colour of the year they do seasonal recommendations and those are very much led by the colours seen on the catwalks, so not only are our make-up looks inspired by catwalks, but the colours we wear are too.
Spring sees a colour for everyone appearing in the ten recommended shades from brights to pastels, through to neutrals, so here’s our quick run-down of the
Spring Trend Shades! Starting with Colour of the Year, Radiant Orchid. A beautiful pink toned purple, you can get the look with Sigma’s single eye shadow in Allure. If you’re feeling like rocking the purple lip then OCC’s Lip Tar in Hoochie will be a close match!
Then we have Placid Blue. The colour of peaceful calm sea. Add a wash of the NYX Cosmetics Loose Powder Ultra Pearl in Baby Blue to get the look.
Violet Tulip is a romantic vintage purple, like purple flowers in the garden. It blends beautifully with shades already mentioned so add a dash of eyeliner, we’d recommend Neve Cosmetics Pastello Eye Liner in Lilac.
Hemlock is a summery pastel green and again, works well to add a flash of something different to the shades already mentioned. Yaby Cosmetics do a Pearl Paint eyeshadow in Spring Garden which is perfect.
Paloma is the first neutral shade and is a soft grey that goes with everything. Everyday Minerals Pearl shadow in Wood Sorrell is the perfect match and again goes with all of the above shades.
Sand is the second of the two neutral shades recommended for Spring and it makes a beautiful pairing with the green of Hemlock. Get the look with Everyday Minerals Matte shadow in Driftwood.
Entering the bright end of the Spring palette of colours we have Cayenne. A beautiful spicy red. Either go for the OCC Lip Tar in Psycho, or if you’re feeling brave go for a cayenne shade on your eyes. NYX’s Ultra Pearl loose shadows come in a beautiful Orange Zest shade that would be perfect.
Celosia Orange is the second of the bright shades and is a beautiful orange that goes beautifully with the Violet Tulip shade. Grab the OCC Stained Gloss Lip Tar in Androgyne for a perfect Spring lip look!
Freesia! Freesia is bright, vivid yellow. OCC’s Colour Concentrate Pigment in Pollen Count is a beautiful bright yellow and perfect for Spring.
Dazzling Blue is the final colour for Spring and is strong and vibrant. Sugarpill’s Pressed eye shadow in Velocity is spot on. Whether you opt for one of these shades or several, you can be sure of being absolutely on trend with your colours this Spring!
