Pantone Colour of the Year

15th February 2016

Pantone Colour of the Year

Pantone Colours of the Year, Rose Quartz and Serenity.

As you may be aware each year Pantone, the authority on all things colour, announce the Colour of the Year. Last year the shade was Marsala, a rich reddish brown and that shade appeared everywhere throughout the year, and in particular in cosmetics, especially lip products. It’s hard to say whether the 90’s lip trend was inspired by the colour of the year, or if it would have happened anyway, but it seems an unlikely that the two are unconnected.

For 2016 Pantone have, for the first time, chosen two colours. Rose Quartz and Serenity. Rose Quartz is a warm rose tone, while Serenity is a cool, tranquil blue. As the two colours overlap a third, lilac tone is created. These shades are ideal cosmetic shades and here we pick out a selection of our products that will help you be on trend this year. Go for it and create a full look, or just select one product for a pop of fashionable colour.

Eye Make Up

The Sigma Loose Shimmer Ice Castle in the Sky Set (£23.95). These little pots are perfect shades for this purpose. Ethereal is a holographic glitter with a pink-purple effect, while Airy is a beautiful blue shimmer with a pink pearl effect, and finally Felicity is a light pink shade. All of the shades combined will give you the perfect 2016 eye. While we’re looking at Sigma, the Single Eye shadows in Moonbeam and Chase (£6 each sale price) are again, perfect shades. The Sugarpill Edward Scissorhands Palette (£26) doesn’t contain a rose quartz shade, but the blue, Home Sweet Home, is nearly perfect, with the additional bonus of five more wearable shades. A palette that seems almost designed with 2016 in mind is the Neve Cosmetics Chiarissimi Eye Palette (£21.95). This beautiful, vitamin enriched palette contains ten coordinating pastel shadows, with Favola and Bouquet hitting the nail on the head. If glitter is your thing, add a pot of Violet Voss Glitter in Sofia (£6.95) to your basket for a perfect pink princess sparkle.

Here are a couple of blushers to give you a rose quartz glow. Everyday Minerals blushers (£9.95) come in several shades that are close to rose quartz, try Fresh Rose and Tea Rose for a warm pink glow. Also be sure to take a look at the Sigma Fall Softly Blush (£9.95) in Modesty which while a little brighter than rose quartz, will blend out perfectly to a beautiful pink.

To prepare your lips, try the Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Lip Scrub in Strawberry Gum (£9), which this doesn’t impart any colour, it’s a beautiful pink sugar scrub, designed to remove dry skin and get them looking perfectly kissable. Gerard Cosmetics Spring Fling Lighted Lip Gloss (£12.95) is a beautiful pink lipgloss perfect for 2016 while their Bermuda Lighted Lip Gloss is described as a creamy pastel purple fits the colour theme perfectly, and if the shade is too bold, wear it over a pink lipstick for a softer finish. OCC Ready To Wear Lip Tar in Femme (£11.50) is a beautiful soft warm pink with all the ease of application of a lip gloss, but the pigmentation of a lipstick.
