Metallic Eyes

6th May 2015

Metallic Eyes

Back in February, the Oscars red carpet was awash with female stars sporting glamourous metallic eye makeup and looking fabulous.

With the warm weather already here and Summer rapidly heading our way, wearing a beautiful gold, copper or bronze eyeshadow (or all of the above!) can look really fantastic, regardless of whether or not you’re on a red carpet, especially if combined with a suntan. There’s something exotic about metallic eyes on tanned skin, but pale skinned beauties can also wear the rich metallic shades and need not stay away. Perhaps you feel silvers are more your thing. Either way, summer is the perfect time to refresh your look and wear beautiful metallic tones.

Starting with Eye shadows here are some of our recommendations for summer eyes that shine.
Daniel Sandler
Beyond Sunset Eye Shadow Quad (£28) A beautiful palette, featuring a dark brown, a grey (with subtle sparkle), a shimmering metallic gold and a sandy nude. It’s a beautiful palette allowing you to add as much gold as you dare.

NYX Cosmetics
Jumbo Eye Shadow Pencils (£5) These affordable, highly pigmented pencils work well as a base for powder shadow, or alone and come in a range of shades, for a metallic look though, check out Yoghurt (rose gold), Gold, Bronze and Rust, as well as French Fries (a coppery shade, and Iced Mocha (a metallic taupe shade), at such a great price, you can afford to try a few!

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics
Colour Concentrate Pigments (£9.50) Highly pigmented, these little pots will last a long time. Offering a large colour range, many of which are metallic. Auric and Triptych are all variations on gold, with Iced being a wonderful silver, and Cruising is a gorgeous bronze shade.

Baked Eye Shadow (£5) Milani’s baked eye shadows are the essence of summer having been baked on Italian terracotta tiles. The shades are medley of shades swirled together for a unique shade, try Copper Excess or Drench in Gold.

Violet Voss
Metal Pigment (£7.50) The clue is in the name with these beautifully rich pigments, a primer will give you the best result when using these, but all the shades are metallic from Big Apple (a rich deep burgundy shade), Tinsel Town (silver) and Sin City, a beautiful Ochre gold. Be sure to take a look at the full line up.

Loose Eye Shadow Pigments (£9.95) When it comes to metallic, Sugarpill get it right, every single time. The new Loose Eye Shadow Pigments are all metallic to some degree, but look out for Charmy (pinky peach with silver) and Grand Tiara (bright metallic silver).

Metallic eye liners are not as easy to come by, but have a look at these.

The Eye of Horus
Goddess Pencils (£17) This Egyptian inspired brand offer a range of metallic eye pencils, from Bronze Amulet, through to metallic purples and greens, the pencils are waterproof and long wearing. Neve Cosmetics Pastello Eye Liner Pencil (£3.95) These affordable eye liners don’t scrimp on quality or colour range, there are many to choose from, but for metallic shades, look out for Bronze and Gold.
