What appears on the catwalks in terms of fashion eventually filters down to us mere mortals and the same applies to cosmetic trends. Each season there are an incredible variety of beauty looks but amongst them key trends emerge. Those that are seen on multiple catwalks are the ones we can expect to pass down in to more mainstream use.
So to get you ahead of the game, here’s a quick run-down on the cosmetic looks you can expect to be wearing in Autumn/Winter 2013, as seen on the catwalks now.
Petal and Berry Lip Stains, as seen on the Dior, Prada, Vera Wang and Marni catwalks. Stained lips are perhaps the biggest trend to emerge from the catwalks and are a strong look for Autumn/Winter. Taking over from last year’s matte lip trend, stains give a punch of colour but with a “just bitten” effect. Matte lips are still around this year but stains are well and truly taking over. Perhaps the easiest trend to recreate at home, just blot your favourite berry lipstick until you are left with only a stain or head for one of OCC’s Stained Gloss Lip Tars.
Sixties Make Up, in particular eyes, seen on Michael Kors, Anna Sui and Zoe Jordan’s catwalks. Think lashings of black liner, wings and graphic shapes, but lots of it. Think about making the look a little different with dots along the bottom lashes, or drawing the winged line in the crease or just above the crease rather than along the lash line. Team with perfect skin and bare lips for a modern look.
Classic Red Nails, seen on the Meadham Kirchoff, Chanel and Valentino catwalks. Red nails never cease to be popular but this year sees a notable increase on the catwalks, think pillar box and tomato reds.
Grungy Eyes, seen on the Marc Jacobs, Rodarte, Lanvin and Nars catwalks. Get smudging under that lower lash line. The aim is to look as though you slept in your make up, and for maximum effect team with a smudgy, smoky eye.
Copper Eyes, seen on Sass & Bide, Tom Ford, Gucci and Versace catwalks. Put a wash of copper from lashes to brow. It’s not for the faint hearted but it’s a look that’s easily adaptable for your own comfort levels. You can get the look with Eye of Horus Isis Sun Goddess Eye Shadow palette or Fevour Cosmetics Mineral Loose eye Shadow in Copper Ice.
Brows. Not for the first year Brows have been a big feature on most catwalks, whether they are groomed to within an inch of their lives or bushy and wild, brows will not go unnoticed!
Many of the above looks were teamed together, so the heavy brows with a berry stain on the lips, or the grungy eye make up with red nails but one thing that all the looks had in common was flawless skin and in many cases a complete lack of blusher. And step away from the bronzer, Autumn/Winter 2013 is all about being pale and interesting.
