As we transition into the colder months our complexions can take a bit of a battering from the elements as well as other factors such as central heating. The fresh faced glow we had just weeks before is often replaced by dry patches, redness or dull skin.
Using a great a skincare regime can combat these effects and is crucial for banishing dry patches and keeping skin balanced but cosmetics can really help you fake it until you make it, adding back some glow, some moisture and helping your skin look and feel happier. There are so many products that can help you restore your glow, it can be hard to know where to start, so here’s a guide to some of our products that will help bring back your radiance.
A great place to start is with a good Primer. LA Girl Cosmetics Pro Prep HD Face Primer (£6.95) will help keep dryness at bay thanks to the addition of nourishing Vitamin E, creating a smooth appearance and creating a perfect base for your foundation.
If you find yourself suffering with skin redness then a great way to counteract that is with colour corrector concealers. To counteract redness, look for a green colour corrector. If you use mineral products, Everyday Minerals Color Corrector in Mint (£5.95) is just the ticket. If you prefer a cream product, take a look at the Morphe Corrector Wheel (£9.95) which contains not just a green but also several other shades for all your correcting needs. Apply sparingly and blend carefully before applying your foundation.
It’s not unusual for people to find they switch foundations in the colder months, to a heavier and more moisturising formula. Milani Conceal and Perfect 2 in 1 Foundation and Concealer (£9.95) has the concealer built in and will cover any redness with ease.
Once you’ve got your base sorted, you can start adding a bit of glow back in, starting with a bronzer. Unlike the summer months, the aim isn’t to look tanned, just to add some warmth to the complexion. Ideally, a bronzer shade one or two shades darker than your skin is perfect. A great product to have is the Morphe That Glow Bronzer Palette (£18.95). This palette houses nine shades of bronzer to suit most skin tones as well as the changing seasons. Just add a touch to all the areas that catch the sun usually, but remember, you’re adding warmth, not aiming to add tan.
Highlighters can really restore some glow to the skin, try a touch of the LA Velvet Contour Stick (£5.00) in either Cashmere or Luminous or Gerard Cosmetics Star Powder in Grace (£19.95) on cheekbones for a touch of glow. Alternatively, opt for a finishing powder designed to illuminated rather than mattify. The Everday Minerals All Over Shimmer Powders (£11.95) are ideal. They are designed to create a soft focus complexion and vary in shade as well as the amount of shimmer. The shade Polished, promises subtle shimmer qualities, ideal for daywear, where glitter and high shimmer can be a little too much.
